Kaplan Hall as The Nation Institute and the Gould Family Foundation present the second annual Jonathan Schell Memorial Lecture on the Fate of the Earth featuring Elizabeth Kolbert. Please note that, though the event is free, RSVPs are required. Elizabeth Kolbert is a staff writer for the New Yorker. Her most recent book, The Sixth Extinction, received the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction in 2015. She is also the author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change, and edited The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2009. She is a two-time National Magazine Award winner, and has received a Heinz Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a National Academies communications award.

Elizabeth Kolbert New Yorker
Elizabeth Kolbert is a regular contributor to Yale Environment 360 and has been a staff writer for the New Yorker since 1999. Her most recent book, 'The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History,' won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and was based in part on reporting she did for Yale Environment 360.
Kolbert is a visiting fellow at the Center for Environmental Studies at Williams College. She lives in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The Jonathan Schell Memorial Lecture Series on the Fate of the Earth was established to honor the memory of Nation Institute fellow Jonathan Schell and takes its name from his 1982 work on the consequences of nuclear war. It is an annual lecture of original work delivered by a speaker selected each year by committee addressing topics such as environmentalism, nuclear disarmament, peace, and other issues about the future of humanity and other life on the Earth.
